Earthquake in Nepal and India!

An earthquake struck India and Nepal the other day - the very place of Mt Everest - that we are told in the Richard Hammond show that is still moving. What more proof do you need?

One of the biggest issues in this remote area is how they will get relief aid to the people affected. Of the examples we have looked at before, this is the first where the earthquake has hit a poor country and in the countryside. The time delays that result from having to air lift relief aid into these areas is often one of the largest contributing factor to large death tolls.

This is also a clear example of what we call 'secondary effects' such as the mudslides. Secondary effects are caused by the main hazard/disaster and then lead to lots of other impacts, often contributing to the death of even more people.
